In my opinion VLC and MPC are both good in their ways. VLC is easy to use and looks nice The top and lower bar are as smal as possible so there is more space for the video. MPC has the advantage in their codecs since I never experienced any codec error there. But it has big top and lower bar so less space for video's also I don't always like how its displaying fonts.
