IMO i h8 when people say anime are for kids, i just shows peoples naiveity. As for cartoons i don't mind anime being called a cartoon, cause it is.... its saying cartoons are only just for kids thts wrong

I agree on that one wispy, anime is just a type of cartoon, but it's better than western cartoons 8)

Well, generally, I think your average anime is to your average cartoon what cartoon is to a cave painting. But generally, this goes only for US-american commercial children's cartoons.
The most important difference between anime and cartoon is the selection of topics. Even the simplest anime's topics and plots dwarf most real-life series with ease.
Again, this is not universal. Cartoon series like Bob Morane, Batman or Alien Conspiracies are comparable to some animes in their continuity.

But, my my, I don't get angry when someone gets the terms wrong... I give a sarcastic smile & feel like I have to teach him or her everything all over again...

Hard to say, you see works by cartoonists like Bill Plympton, and while it's not the best drawn work, it's eccentric and funny. Then you see anime like Apocalypse Zero, and wonder what's wrong with the company that green lights such garbage. I'm a toon hound, I like it all. From Animaniacs to YuYu Hakusho(can't find any anime that starts with Z).

It's always funny to me how anime and other cartoons feed off each other. The concepts, the artwork, even the storylines. Of course, nowadays, with more and more US animation being outsourced to Korea, and other Asian countries, the lines between anime and cartoons is starting to blur. Ex: Teen Titans, Simpsons, etc.

If were gonna talk about old classic humor cartoons are the best(Tom and Jerry and the Disneys) But for fun for older people I like humor anime. Like Great Teacher Onizuka

i love anime way more because it can relate to real life but thats not the only reason. lol. cartoon drawing i got to admit s**ks. you can probly figure out that word. especially when the try to make it look more like an anime and it just makes it looks worse. but for the most part i love anime way more because they put alot of more detail in it and the artwork is fantastic. well at least on most anime. lol

I'm liking the fact that they are drawing(pun intended) more from each other these days. Even got joint collaboration projects these days.

You should ask..."what'd ya like more comics or manga" and I would answer they're both equal
Cartoons are often worse remakes of the comic..as for anime it's often a good remake of the manga (ok not everytime)...

I would Comic/Manga equal..... Cartoon worse than Anime
