| VLC plays just about everything. Problem is it crashes on mkv and ogm files. It also struggles with playback(advance and back) on ogm and mkv files. I like the hotkeys in VLC though, dirt simple. MPC is highly tweakable, sometimes too tweakable, and will crash your system if you try to fine tweak the video settings. However, MPC will playback anything, it doesn't allow you to advance and backup as cleanly as VLC, but if you do enough tweaking you can get MPC to playback almost like VLC. Warning too many codecs installed will hose your system, so be careful with MPC.

| I usually use CorePlayer just because I have the codecs for everything and I like the setup. But if I do happen to come across something that it isn't fond of I turn to VLC, which doesn't crash or struggle with OGM's or MKV's for me. I'd be lying if I said I never had a problem with it playing a file but it's usually just a random video that I can't get to work with any players so I'd say it's more of an encoding issue than a player issue.
