The best freeware program for encoding and transcoding out there! Really don't need to install any codecs because it has them built in!!! Can be slow, but you can do the most with it, crop and pad, adjust screen size, dimensions, aspect ratio,quality, etc.

You can easily rip audio, like that cool song you ended up having to find on youtube with a stupid video attached....well, now you can rip the audio to mp3 for your player, or any other format.

When my codecs are out of date, or other programs like WinAVI crap out (as it frequently does with mkv's), I can usually get something productive out of Super.

And, unlike some software, not only does Super get fairly regular updates as needed, but being freeware they are all painless and free! Just download and install the latest build!

The ONLY hassle with this program- it's a pain in the arse locating the actual DOWNLOAD LINK!!!

But, once you do, it's about a 25-30MB download, simple install, and as long as you don't have a slow POS system, you should be good to go!

i've gotten a lot of readings from anti-viruses with super - are they false positives?
and saying it's hard to downlod is the understatement of the CENTURY!!!!

hmmm.... not sure, might need to do some google research on that one. I've never had a virus or issue from it though... of course, that doesn't mean the site hasn't been hacked or something since the last time I updated it, either.

Remember though that the program has built-in codecs, it may be something simple as adding itself or a codec to the registry that is triggering it, too, but honestly I don't know. That's the first time anyone has ever told me they were having an issue with it.

Oh, I also use Total Video Converter too sometimes,but have found that while my pc can read the final XVid AVI output, my tv box can't, so whenever I use that, I have to re-code with Super or some other program. That's why I usually use just Super or Win-AVI.

For me

If I wanna rip/convert my DVD, I use handbrake
If I wanna convert Mkv to Vob (for my PSP/PS3), I use mkv2vob
If I wanna convert video file to another, I use mediacoder

But when I'm subbing(fansub) I usually use meGUI (for mkv) and VirtualDub (for AVI - hardsubtitle)
