Need a new vob to avi converter

I'm tired of WinAVI, so does anyone know of a good freeware vob to avi video converter?

IF it is for purpose of making rip. Try these: DVD2Avi, DVD shrink etc...

Thanks, I finally wound up using Avidemux.

My new problem is I have a high-def mkv file, that uses a newfangled video codec. I was able to convert the file from mkv to avi, but I lost the sound in the process.

I'll just keep tinkering till I get it right, but thanks for all your suggestions.

OMG, now I know, I forgot to ask you about codecs used for that MKV file. Are they supported?

H264(MPEG-4) format. But it's in high-def. I once had the same problem with the new One Piece episodes by Kaizoku fansubs, but VLC played them fine.

The def isn't the issue as long as it'đ supported with codec. But if the codec is supported by the encoding program you use, that is a different question...

I was using avidemux. It seemed to work, but I lost the audio. I think I just didn't configure it right.

Problem is the video is 8GB, and it takes a long time to encode.

I can't recommend Avidemux, since I haven't used it for a long time now. I'm stuck with VD, VDM and NanDub. If MKV 2.0 needed I use MKVmerge
