Which programme do you use and which do you think is better: Photoshop or GIMP?

I used to be a great GIMP fan, because of the fact that it was free and I could do everything I wanted with it (or so I thought). Then when I finally got my hands on Photoshop and saw the endless possibilities I completely forgot about GIMP. Been using Photoshop ever since.

when in on Windows im using photoshop when im on linux Gimp !

il vote photoshop because im on windows more often than linux !blush2

I like Adobe ilistrator, but for mah image editing, coloring, etc and etc

Gimp in win32 and linux !!!!

I'll put some tutes and etc up for gimp l8r, -D

I've only played around in GIMP once or twice but I prefer photoshop, mainly because it's what I'm used to.

Thats often how it is. Ppl use what the know/are used too.

There honestly are strong points for both.

It comes down to the plugins for most ppl tho, it seems. They both have good resources and each has diff plugins that stand out.

true...but you've got to admit that all professionals use photoshop and not GIMP...

In my opinion GIMP is like an alternative program, it is in no way comparable to Adobe Photoshop. Their goal purposes are different, which pretty much sums up their differences. Adobe Photoshop is for those that want to start or have a company, or somehow been able to get a hacked version of the program (keygen/cracks). Basically being a massively used program, used by individual designers as well as professional companies. GIMP on the other hand is cheaper (free), which makes it a much better choice for the starting-designers out there. Not just starters, also those that simply can't afford the program or somehow kept being attached to the program after using it multiple times over and over.

This pretty much means that I like Photoshop a lot more.

Just my opinion, don't think of this as an offensive act in any way.
