What do you mean " you don't know " ???
The only trick it always works for me is IRC channels ( you must track all the best fan-subbing group channels) .
The other thing you must notice is the quality , because during the scanlatiion process nomaly we are loosing the quality due to scanner or main source material .

The best way is buying the orginal one , however you have to wait so long for the new releases to show up
at bookstores .

I do both, I rent the DVD if it's available, if I like I buy. Hard to find animes, or long series that have been bastardized(e.g. When CN messes with series), I search for fansubs.

I prefer buying but most of the series i want are only available as imports and then the price of one dvd is about 30€ or more so I download them as long as i can and wait for lower prices. Mangas I buy or rent them from library.

I will buy the manga if the quality is good and not too expensive ....... but sometimes the manga book is too expensive and the paper is so low quality that I am forced to download them from the internet ...... sometimes , i just eager to read the latest chapter of the manga I like ... so , i download them from internet or read them online ....
