i prefer to buy manga. although there was one time where manga here in the Philippines was so rare...you can even empty a whole bookstore by trying to find at least one title that you like but you won't find any. the usuals like Slam Dunk, Ragnarok which were easy to complete were still overwhelmingly in stock even today. thanks to some hobby/specialty bookstores even though they're too far from my where i live it's the only place i can buy some manga and find more. i still find scanlates good too,but i only do that when i want to preview the title first, to make sure i won't regret buying the whole book, it's kind of costly here but if i really like the story then i won't have any regret on that.

I bought most of the manga I read, because I like to have them in my hands, to feel them, to smell them and you can carry them around... I really don't like reading on the computer...

Most of the time, I read the whole series first online, and if it was good enough for me to say, "That was a good manga." I go and buy it. I don't get any trouble with the money though, because I buy mine in Japanese and L.A, California has nice cheap places where a pre-read manga can be bought for at most $3.

As for myself I prefer to buy manga. The reason why is I'd rather take my manga anywhere and read it. The cost does add up but it's all a matter of budgeting and pacing for myself. Though, If I cannot purchase something in my area at all I will download it.

hehe, I wrote somewhere, that there are only few mangas translated into my language, and translating translated is a bit..... hmmmmm... ...Strange?
Not to mention that if I really order something, it will go through more than one bookstore and the costs will rise too much for me.

I'm completely torn on the issue.
In the world where i have a limited money supply the reality is that I buy only a fraction of the stuff i download online, and then only when it's on special. I would love to support the industry and to have a large library i share around with people i know, but I'm scared of being ripped off in buying $20 volumes and episodes at $5 each. In a world where i had the money, I would certainly buy manga volumes but I still doubt the value of having a solid DVD case in my hand would outweigh the seemingly outrageous price of DVDs. So for now i'm going to stick with downloading, it may be economically bad karma but one day i'll buy all the serious i liked the most. Oneday... o_o" |
