I understand what what you are saying and in almost all circumstances I'd agree entirely. Upscales, while they do make the picture bigger, often do so at the expense of quality. This effect is magnified when dealing with anything that was shot on film. In the case of present day anime, this effect is decreased but it's still visible to the eye. In my case, that isn't much of an issue. Allow me to explain. I watch all my anime on my T.V., it's connected to my laptop, which in turn has all the anime on it. The only drawback with this setup is that I can't make a given show play on the T.V. at a higher resolution than my laptop's monitor. The T.V., by the way, is set up for 1920x1080 (simply 1080p). Put simply, the HD Raw upscales appear bigger on the T.V. than FTP-A's subbed versions, because of that the subtitles are easier to read on the HD version than yours. I don't like squinting to read the subtitles, it's a pain in the rear, and thats what it boils down to. Well that and even the HD upscales look gorgeous in comparison to the SD ones.
Just so there isn't a misunderstanding, I'm not dissin FTP-A or anything. On the contrary, I'm completing you and your hard work, I love your subs over those other guys. Ya'll do a great job. Well... aside from Ketsurui, you fail. Just kidding Ketsurui, just kidding, I'm giving you a hard time is all. We all screw up from time to time and that's what makes us human. Aside from the germans that is, they do everything perfectly and they let you know it too. Anyway, moving back on topic. I love FTP-A's work and I hope ya'll continue to produce high quality fansubs in a timely manner (unlike another group...). Since it seems like I won't be able to get ahold of your subs then I guess I'll have to use another groups (however unpleasant that my be). I'll continue to watch your releases on my computer mind you but I won't be able to share them with family and friends on Anime night. Oh well... Maybe they weren't ment to experience the greatness that FTP-A is.

Photos of T.V. and SD sub comparison to upscaled HD Raw in spoiler.

The T.V. and 1920x1080 Horo goodness. Now imagine a picture 1280x720 playing in the place of Horo... On second thought, downsize Horo from 1920x1080 to 1280x720, stick her on that same screen and put ugly black bars around her. Downsize again to 704x396 and make the black bars bigger, then try to read blurry subtitles. Not very pleasant is it? Anyway, that's my problem.

Possible NWS Horo goodness, though nothing is actually visible I thought I'd spoiler it just to be safe.

The HD Raws are a tad blurry in comparison but they still look pretty good.
